If you feel like your upper arms look fuller than you’d like, even when the rest of your body feels proportionate, arm liposuction can help create a slimmer, more defined contour.

At New Body Aesthetics in Cincinnati, Ohio, Dr. Cory Gaiser performs arm liposuction with a focus on shaping the entire upper arm rather than simply removing fat. The goal is to create a smoother transition from the shoulder toward the elbow while maintaining proportions that look natural with the rest of your body.

For the right patient, even a relatively small change in this area can make the arms appear noticeably more sculpted and defined.

What Causes Stubborn Upper Arm Fat?

Where your body tends to store fat is influenced by several factors, including genetics, hormones, age, and changes in weight.

For some people, the upper arms remain a stubborn area regardless of how active they are or how much they exercise. Strength training can build and define the muscles underneath, but it can't specifically control where your body loses fat.

This can leave fullness along the upper or back portion of the arms that doesn't seem to change along with the rest of your body.

What Can Arm Liposuction Improve?

Arm liposuction is designed to reduce localized pockets of fat and improve the overall shape of the upper arms.

Depending on your anatomy and goals, treatment may help:

  • Reduce fullness of the upper arms
  • Improve definition between the shoulder and arm
  • Create a slimmer arm profile
  • Address stubborn fat along the back or underside of the arms
  • Improve proportion between the arms and upper body

The goal isn't to make every patient's arms look the same. Dr. Gaiser considers your natural proportions and where you're carrying excess fat when determining how the area should be contoured.

Will Arm Liposuction Help With Loose Skin?

This is an important distinction when considering arm liposuction.

Liposuction removes unwanted fat, while the amount of skin tightening you experience depends on factors such as your existing skin quality and elasticity.

Some patients primarily have excess fat with good skin elasticity, while others have a combination of fat and loose skin. During your consultation, Dr. Gaiser can evaluate both so you have a better understanding of what kind of improvement may be possible.

Arm Contouring in Cincinnati

Because the arms are visible from so many different angles, successful arm contouring is about more than making one area smaller.

At New Body Aesthetics, Dr. Gaiser evaluates how the upper arm transitions into the shoulder, underarm, and surrounding areas. This helps create a contour that looks balanced whether your arms are resting at your sides or you're wearing something sleeveless.

For some patients, arm liposuction is performed on its own. For others, it may be incorporated into a larger body-contouring treatment plan.

What Is Recovery Like After Arm Liposuction?

It's normal to experience swelling, bruising, tenderness, and tightness during the early stages of recovery.

Most patients are encouraged to begin light movement soon after their procedure. You'll need to temporarily limit strenuous exercise and activities that place significant stress on the treated area while your arms heal.

Compression may also be recommended following treatment to provide support and help manage swelling.

Your arms will continue to change as swelling gradually decreases, so the contour you see immediately after treatment isn't considered your final result.

When Should I Consider Arm Liposuction?

Arm liposuction may be worth considering if you're generally comfortable with your weight but continue to have fullness in your upper arms that doesn't respond the way you'd like to diet or exercise.

It may also be an option if:

  • Your arms feel out of proportion with the rest of your body
  • You avoid sleeveless clothing because of upper-arm fullness
  • You want greater definition through the upper arms
  • Your weight is relatively stable
  • You have localized fat rather than primarily loose skin

A consultation with Dr. Gaiser allows him to evaluate the amount of fat, your skin quality, and the shape of your arms to determine an appropriate treatment approach.

About Us
Does arm liposuction treat the entire arm?

Treatment is customized to the areas where you carry excess fat. Dr. Gaiser evaluates the overall upper-arm contour and determines which areas should be addressed to create a balanced result.

Will my arms look muscular after liposuction?

Liposuction doesn't create muscle, but reducing the layer of fat covering existing muscle can sometimes allow your natural arm definition to become more noticeable.

Does arm liposuction get rid of “bat wings”?

It depends on what's causing the appearance. If fullness is primarily caused by excess fat, liposuction may improve it. If significant loose skin is the main concern, removing fat alone may not fully correct the area.

Will I have scars?

Liposuction requires small access points for treatment. Dr. Gaiser places these strategically when possible, and their appearance typically continues to improve as they heal.

How soon will my arms look smaller?

You may notice a difference early on, but swelling can temporarily obscure your results. Your arm contour becomes more apparent as swelling subsides and healing progresses.

Can arm liposuction be combined with other areas?

Yes. Depending on your goals and treatment plan, arm liposuction may be performed along with other areas of body contouring.

Will the fat come back in my arms?

The fat cells removed during liposuction are permanently removed, although remaining fat cells can still enlarge with future weight gain.

Do I need to be at my goal weight first?

Liposuction is intended for body contouring rather than significant weight loss. Being at or relatively close to a stable weight can help you get the most from the procedure and maintain your results.
